I'll never forget the day I decided to be different. My customer, a school district in Texas, handed me a massive binder of documentation from their consultant. It was such a blatant copy-paste that it still had the name of a previous school district on every page. I couldn't believe the lack of individual attention!
I've been working with customers at every size, industry, and budget for over a decade, and I always get asked the same question: "How can I make my show better without breaking the bank?". I work on some of the biggest shows in the world, with budgets in the millions, and most people think their shows can't learn anything from mine. In reality, what makes a show successful is the same regardless of budget. We're all trying to tell a good story and engage our audience. The gear, the technology, the production elements: they're all just tools to help us achieve that goal.
That's why I started NGTV: to share the lessons I've learned from Super Bowls, World Series, and all the big shows in between, and help teams be more successful with the tools they already have. Latency isn't just an engineering metric; it's a creative constraint. High latency forces camera ops to cut conservatively; they can't take chances. By tuning IP protocols like SRT, NDI, and ST-2110, I give remote operators the real-time response to be bold, and boldness makes a better show.
